ROOF
The final metal roof was another part of the project I was happy to sub out to a professional team. My little town of Eureka has a fantastic local metal Mfg company: NW Metals
Before I was ready for the final metal roof I had to get the plywood sheeting on. As an amateur I can note this was nearly impossible for me to do by myself, I simply didn’t have the talent yet to sling 4x8 sheets around myself. Long story short you’ll def want help with a friend to lay the plywood and underlayment.
I fully believe it is worth the extra expense to fully cover your roof in Ice & Water shield. If you’re doing a metal roof just make sure you get HT type: high temp.
Going Ice & water shield also allows you to continue to do work inside, like drywall, even if rain comes. The underlayment can be exposed for 6 months but you of course want to hustle and get the roof on asap. Another added benefit is a better shield against ice dams + each screw you put through the metal roof is sealed.
I went for a slight upgrade on my roof and did a standing seam style metal roof. I also recommend using the silicone seals for the plumbing roof vent + high temp for the chimney.
My roof cost $7500, with materials + labor, and the underlayment was $1200.
